Beaware to JailBreak
Like all jailbreak tools, this new version, published by the serial jailbreak hacking syndicate Unc0ver, allows users to break through Apple’s security controls and install apps that aren’t approved by the company.
Interestingly, the latest tools exploit a kernel vulnerability (tracked as CVE-2021-1782). This was fixed by Apple last month with the release of iOS 14.4.
According to Unc0ver, the new jailbreak tool will work on all iPhones running iOS 14.3 from iOS 11 released last December. This means that this tool will work on all iPhone 5S and later models, unless your phone is running the latest version of iOS.
Apple typically fixes vulnerabilities that allow hackers to bypass security mechanisms and make available the underlying software on their devices very quickly. In fact, the previous iOS jailbreak tools in the same group that were running on devices running iOS 11 through iOS 13.3 were quickly disabled by a Cupertino-based tech company.
In this latest example, Apple is one step ahead and has already fixed a vulnerability used in the new jailbreak tool.
There is constant debate between Jailbreakers and security researchers, each discussing the benefits and harmonies of breaking Apple’s security checks. Apple’s controls may sound limited, but disabling them makes your device vulnerable to attacks and other types of exploits.
