Everton celebrate Izzy Christiansen's goal
Everton made it two wins out of two after last week’s victory at Bristol City

Izzy Christiansen’s header saw Everton maintain their winning start to the Women’s Super League season with victory over Tottenham.

The England midfielder nodded home Nicoline Sorensen’s pinpoint cross early in the second half.

Spurs, without star recruit Alex Morgan, only briefly threatened as Kit Graham and Josie Green were denied.

Lucy Graham had earlier wasted a good chance for the hosts but they rarely looked like relinquishing their lead.

Buoyed by an opening 4-0 win at Bristol City, Everton were the brighter side early on with Hayley Raso twice forcing Spurs keeper Becky Spencer into saves.

The Australia international had a low strike turned behind for a corner before cutting in from the left flank, but this time her shot lacked power.

It took Tottenham – who had three players making full debuts including Shelina Zadorsky and Alanna Kennedy – 41 minutes to manage a shot on target.

Captain Green let fly from 25 yards, forcing Sandy Maclver into a smart save, before the Everton keeper turned Graham’s effort round the post.

Everton midfielder Graham might have put the hosts ahead just before the interval but blazed over the bar after Christiansen’s initial shot was blocked.

Sorensen came on at the break and the Denmark international made an immediate impact with a precise delivery from the left flank, which set Christiansen up to plant her header firmly into the corner.
